Reading: A Few Simple Forms of English Poems

【正文】1.教材分析(the analysis of teaching materials)
  This unit mainly focuses on poems. The purpose is to let the students learn something about the simple English poems. Besides, it would cultivate students’ appreciation of poetry and the ability of understanding, enjoying and writing ability. 
  2.学情分析(the analysis of the students)
  Our students know little about English poetry for they don’t learn it before. This class can help them to know something about English poetry and learn how to write poetry in English. 
  3.教学目标(Teaching aims)
  *知识目标(Knowledge aims)
  1. Let the Ss know how to read and can recite the following new words: poem, poetry, rhyme, rhythm, convey, nursery, tease, salty, endless, branch, diamond, take it easy, run out of, make up, etc.
  2.Let the Ss know about some simple forms of English poems. 
  *能力目标(Ability aims)
  1. Make the students talk about some poems or songs they learned before. 
  2. Enable students to discuss why people write poems. 
  *情感目标( Emotional aims)
  1. To cultivate students’ appreciation of poetry and the ability of understanding, enjoying and writing poems. 
  2. To develop students’ sense of cooperative learning. 
  4.教学重点和难点(Teaching important points and difficult points)
  Teaching important points:
  1.Master the important new words,phrases and sentence patterns.
  2.Collect the reasons why the poets write poems.
  3.The similarities and differences between the Chinese and English poets and poems.
  Teaching difficult points:
  1.Find out the characteristics of each kind of poems.
  2.Practice writing simple poems.
  6.教学过程(Teaching procedures)
  Step 1 Warming up 
  1.Talk about poets and poems the students learned before.
  2.Let some students list the reasons why people write poems on the blackboard.
  Step 2 Lead in
  The teacher plays a short video about “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”and the students enjoy it then try to understand that rhyme and rhythm are essential to poems.

  Step 3: Fast reading 
  Raise two questions and ask students to read the passage quickly and find out the answers directly.
  How many kinds of poems are mentioned in the passage? What are they?
  【设计说明】通过快速阅读,培养让学生养成带着问题阅读的习惯,帮助学生有的放矢地快速获取主要信息的能力。

  本节课的教学对象是高二学生,他们了解中文诗歌的种类,风格和特色,因此对英文诗歌的学习也充满了兴趣。通过本节课的学习,我发现大多数学生能主动配合老师和同学,对设计的活动很感兴趣,尤其是最后的竞猜小诗和写小诗环节,组与组之间竞争激烈。这表明学生在掌握了五种英文诗的基本特点后,初步达到了学以致用的目的。稍显不足的是,对于基础薄弱的学生来说,还要想办法提高他们运用英语进行交际的能力。
